The exceptional story of Vera Brittain, who fought all her life against the constraints imposed on women. Through sheer determination she won a scholarship to Oxford, trained as an overseas nurse during the First World War and finally became a successful and respected writer. During the war she bore the death of her brother, her lover and most of her friends. This serial charts the remarkable rehabilitation and re-entry into the world that had shown her only appalling destruction. Dramatised from a true story, this BBC/London Films production has won numerous awards, including Best Series and Best Actress from the British Academy. It stars CHERYL CAMPBELL and PETER WOODWARD.
